Mud Volcanoes of Azerbaijan

Getting to the site of the mud volcanoes is as exciting as seeing the gas bubbling out and catching fire. 

After being dropped off at the staging area, we hire Ladas of Russian vintage to cover the last leg. It is an uneven dirt track, but the Lada drivers think it is F1 circuit. We hang on for our dear lives and are happy to arrive 15 minutes later with all our bones intact. The drivers also double up as guides and have lighters handy to torch the gas seeping out of the muddy mounds. 

The mud volcanoes are scattered over a vast expanse that resenbles the lunar landscape.
