Ahmedabad Heritage Walk
Every morning from 8 to 10, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation conducts a heritage walk. It starts at the Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur and finishes at the Jami Masjid. The guides are young volunteers and the amount of fascinating details they pack into the 2 hours is just phenomenal. It serves as a excellent introduction to the history and culture of the city. There were seven others with me in the walk today, 2 of them local Amdavadi women, who were more excited than the rest of us.
The walk is through the pols and ols with frequent stops to admire the exquisite wooden carvings and facades. Started 15 years ago, this kind of heritage walk is worthy of being emulated by other civic bodies in the country.
